Was ist Markdown?

Markdown is a lightweight markup language created by John Gruber in 2004 that lets you write formatted text using plain-text syntax. Instead of HTML tags or WYSIWYG editors, you use simple characters: # for headings, ** for bold, * for italic, - for lists, and backticks for code. Markdown is used everywhere in software development — README files, documentation, GitHub issues, blog platforms, note-taking apps, and static site generators.

The beauty of Markdown is that the source text is readable even without rendering. A heading marked with ## My Title is clearly a heading even in plain text. This makes Markdown files easy to write, read, and version-control with Git. Every developer encounters Markdown regularly, whether writing documentation, commenting on pull requests, or authoring blog posts.

This Markdown preview tool gives you a live, side-by-side editor and preview. Write or paste Markdown on the left, and see the rendered HTML output on the right in real-time. It supports headings, bold/italic text, code blocks with syntax highlighting, links, images, lists (ordered and unordered), blockquotes, and horizontal rules. All rendering happens in your browser — your content never leaves your machine.

So Preview Markdown Online

  1. Write or paste Markdown — Enter your Markdown text in the editor on the left. A sample document is pre-loaded to demonstrate supported features.
  2. See live preview — The right panel renders your Markdown to styled HTML in real-time as you type, with no button clicks needed.
  3. Test formatting — Try headings (# H1 through ###### H6), bold, italic, lists, code blocks, blockquotes, links, and horizontal rules.
  4. Iterate on content — Edit your Markdown and instantly see how changes affect the rendered output, perfect for drafting documentation or README files.
